now give me your death: a perforation

"now give me your death"- text embroidered on chiffon... this was then hung casually on a tv monitor displaying static/white noise
the text comes from a ____
i read somewhere that once, that fantastic (coined afro-futurist) musician sun ra had said after his performance to his audience "NOW GIVE ME YOUR DEATH!"  well apparently he shouted at the audience, demanding that of them... i found it incredible- not only the story-but imagine...
and if one reads sunra through the lens of afro pessimism (term coined by achille mbembe)... really... that is fantastic....(fantastic to read his afro futurism through afro pess)
and remember in that film of his "space is the place"...(there are 2 versions of that film i believe- i prefer the 1st that i saw, but anyways i am going along a winding road the destination of which we will never know-) in the film i think he also demands that black people should die- to escape the life(death) that was created for them in the usa... the material conditions and also the language that frames them(us) ...
well that was the begining of it...
there is something about exits...

"now tell me _____ can you dispossess a void?"
"tell me _____ can you dispossess a void?"

more text embroidered on fabric- above on chiffon- below on a thick fabric similar to felt
these were part of sculptures- the images of which are in the post that follows this under the title "kgoro ya go tswa..." the text came from a book called,"the place of blackness" (it also had an afro pessimist 'portal' to it...) (black hole studies)
the research into voids and holes continues.... how does a toilet roll dispossess its hole? what to do with a hole...?
i am still to read that book by archille varzi, i took his metaphysics class at columbia uni... i loved it! most friends i invited to the class were bored as hell, i was in heaven, the abstractions were incredible!
what a portal!

"no parts of which survive here"
i can't recall where the text is borrowed from... sounds like something from a text by archille varzi.... could be the one on geography/geographical borders.... or holes...

"i didn't cross the border, the border crossed me"- yes quotation too from los tigres del norte, a mexican american band...what a beautiful text!!

now give me your death...

this video piece is of light bouncing off a bumpy kinda dirty metal plate- it looks vague and abstract- the light is shinning on this thing that is undefined, the border of which is indefinite.... looks like a blob really- this is projected onto a plasma screen through a sheet of glass...
this video/sculpture thing i did a version of in istanbul...

i had only shown in there- and wondered how it could work again- and also in context to other works in the show....
well it is interesting to have threads though various works over the years... and also to see how a work changes because of various viewing conditions/and arrangement of other things around...
anyways...
